Hi I'm Sharon, I have been farming deer and involved in the Deer Industry for the last 12 years. As a kid i helped Dad catch wild deer in the bush and grew up on the farm.
I run the Love Red Deer 100 acre block in Rotorua finishing weaners and providing replacements for Dads main 250 acre Breeding unit. I also provide the 2 year velvet and Trophy replacements. We are farming in a Nitrogen restricted catchment and actively looking at ways to farm with a lighter environmental footprint.
I am the current paid administrator of the National Rising Stars competition which is being held in Rotorua 20 February 2016 & 2017. I was also the unpaid administrator of the competition from 2007 - 2010 and a key part of competitions revival.
I was elected on to the DFA executive 2008-2010.
With Master measurer Hub Hall & SCI Chairperson Terry Pierson I developed the Deer Farmers Measurer course and just recently starting working with Greg Brady Waiariki Institute of Technology supporting some industry specific training.
I assisted animal trainer Mark Vette in sourcing 12 pet deer from around the country to be trained for an Australian Toohey commercial.
I also keep a small stock of antler products for local artists to help support New Zealand made.
I am currently the Chair of the newly merged BOP branch of the Deer Farmers Association and actively involved in the current Water quality rules being developed for lake Rotorua with local councils.
I offer a good sound background in deer farming in New Zealand and have a tremendous network of knowledge around me to link you with the information and people you may need to assist you with all aspects of farming deer.
No job is too big or too small :-)
