Focused on Trophy for the last 30 years we are consistently producing long well defined tines offering you Awesome Trophy Genetics. We began deer farming in 1979 with red deer captured from the bush in the Rotorua area, and were fortunate to have several exceptional animals in the foundation herd. Added to these, a combination of imported bloodlines (U.K., Warnham, German, Danish, Furzeland), detailed and comprehensive performance recording, selective breeding and determined culling have, over the years, enabled the farm to develop a quality herd with an exceptional hind base.
Evaluations of both individuals and family groups over a number of generations have highlighted consistent representation of particular genetic traits which have been important in our breeding management. Selective breeding programmes (natural, AI and ET) and determined culling aimed to produce early fawning, excellent growth rates and temperament and impressive velvet or trophy have proved to be successful.
Always with an eye to an antler style of long and well-defined tynes, the stud has been consistently represented in prizes for a number of velvet heads in the early years and now for hard antler, at North Island and National antler competitions. The ‘Awesome’ trophy potential within our herd is well established, indicated by the ongoing production of very impressive trophy style heads both in our own animals and off farm. Always with that quest for ‘the perfect antler’ the stud will continue to selectively source and breed from sires and hinds recognized for excellent genetics and trophy potential. We have been fortunate to have or access and produce a number of these.
All deer are farmed at Rotorua or Mamaku on grass hill country, with supplementary maize or silage over winter. Over 25 years of breeding and intimate knowledge of deer has gone into the production and selection of these animals on offer this season.
