30+ years of breeding solely for velvet production.
A warm welcome to our 30th Netherdale Elite Red Deer Sale.
We have had a great year weather wise with an exceptional Autumn and Spring before things turned cold and wet in October/November.
This is reflected in the catalogue with only one head still on at print deadline.
The velvet market started off slowly this season, with buyers working with the new import requirements imposed by the Chinese Govt. This will be sorted and I believe the future of the velvet market remains very positive.
The line up of 3 year old sires has an average of 7kg which is well up on previous years.
This year we have a great representation from our Master Sires with Harlem, 403, Riley, Wardlaw, 1021 and young sire No 1 who has his first progeny in the sale.
The velvet Breeding Values this year are exceptional with 3 stags over +3kg and 23 over +2kg.
Lot 1 cut 10.50kg SA2, the heaviest 3 year old ever cut at Netherdale. An amazing head and is reluctantly for sale for a price!
As usual every effort has been made to cut heads correctly, giving you the ability to access an honest weight and grade, eliminating guesswork on future performance.
This year we have approx 70, 2 year old velvet stags on offer. The 2 year old velveters are animals from the stud hinds and do shift particularly well. It is too early to access their velvet weights but we expect to offer a top line up.
Our feed policy is all animals are wintered on fodder beet, the stags are fed crushed grain from button drop and weaners are fed crushed grain in Autumn/Spring dependant on grass growth. We do not feed any PKE.
As in the past we are offering a good selection of young hinds with velvet EBV from Harlem, Capone, 791 and our exciting new sire Henshaw who cut over 11kg SA2 as a 5 year old.
We continue to receive positive feedback from previous purchasers on the excellent shifting ability and velvet weights of Netherdale animals. A number of past sires purchased at the Netherdale sale have cut 11,12 and 13kg SA2 velvet and continue to win or place in velvet competitions throughout NZ.
Our emphasis has always been on velvet genetics so it is really pleasing to achieve such great results from our breeding programme.
